Stephen Colbert has long been a champion of campaign finance issues, but now his compatriot at The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, is joining in the fun with two recent segments highlighting the serious corruption our current system causes.
Samantha Bee tries to attend Obama’s $40,000-a-plate, celebrity-studded, New York fundraiser. She complains that “All he does is ask for money…What about my needs?” Fred Wertheimer, a campaign finance expert, explains, while in bed with Bee, “All of this money is corrupting our politics.”
In the end, Bee is unable to court Obama because she “didn’t really have what he needed right now: powerful friends and an enormous, and available, line of credit.”

Asif Mandvi investigates the gross pollution of Idaho’s rivers by the agribusiness giant, Simplot. Simplot asks its regulators to raise the limits on pollution, Mandvi asks in frustration, “What, does Simplot run this whole state?” The answer, unfortunately:
They are one of the largest, privately held agribusiness companies in the world. The governor of Idaho worked at Simplot for 30 years and married J.R. Simplot’s daughter. Idaho congressman Mike Simpson chairs the EPA’s budget. What the F***?!
