The ALEC Scorecard – Updated Daily!

See who quit ALEC, and thank them.
See who’s still funding ALEC, and tell them it’s time to quit!

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is in trouble. In recent weeks, numerous supporters have listened to public demands and quit the corporate front group, responsible for the controversial Stand Your Ground law, voter suppression laws, and laws that harm consumers and workers. Below, you can thank the corporations that left ALEC — and tell those standing by ALEC and its harmful agenda that it’s not okay.

We and our partners are targeting these ALEC donors; will you help by tweeting?

We don't know every corporation that funds ALEC — but for a partial list, click here.

Here are some other notable ALEC donors.

Get Involved

  • Christine Gallo

    Monsanto?  Is this corporation involved?

  • Janee

All Companies and Corporations involved with ALEC…Get out Now!!! You are helping support corruption and injustices against Americans, taking voting rights away, allowing laws like “Stand-your-ground” to endanger victims, interfering with existing laws to protect women’s rights; equal pay for equal work for women, attempting to repeal “the anti-violence against women Act”, and unfair emigration laws like the one in Arizona that violates the Constitutional rights of the citizen on the street .  Come on People. Get informed. Google it all if necessary.  Any other club you would consider joining, you would do more research on , wouldn’t you?

  • Lmmax111

When you run with dogs you get flees.

  • AMHA2006

Not everyone who would like to support this cause is, or wants to be, into Twitter or Facebook!  By limiting your response system to Twitter and Facebook you loose a lot of potential supporters of your cause1

    • eilis

I concur. i choose not to use Facebook and dont twitter. how about email?

  • MoneyOutofPolitics

Thank you for this information. I will make sure to boycott these companies, because they are not acting in the public’s best interests.

  • sherando1

I’d like to know why these companies were supporting such a disgusting organization in the first place. Certainly they could have been spending there money helping people survive the present economy.

    • Peggy

Walmart, FedEx, Koch, PHRMA,and Pfizer are huge Republican donors.  Also, Fed Ex paid less taxes than you or me.  Don’t buy Georgia Pacific products.  This is Koch Brothers.

  • Internet

I agree with AMHA2006 about the facebook and Twitter association.  I’m on Facebook but not Twitter.  To those supporting ALEC, democracy is coming, and it’s called the internet. As long as we have freedom of speech here, you should be worried!  Let’s all make sure this medium of communication remains free!

  • An ALEC opponent

Seriously? I have to connect my Facebook or Twitter account here to count? Whoa! HUGE social media mistake. I know, because it’s how I earn my living! A huge number of people love the convenience of having their entire life open for Facebook to monetize as they wish. But there is also a very large contingent who find it offensive. And oddly, we are among the most active online!

I have a Disqus account, but am posting anonymously because my brother works for one of the corporations above. I can’t risk my nephew and niece’s groceries! :D

  • Caroline_Anna

Really expecting monsanto, koch brothers and big pharma to care what we think is too funny. STILL, we don’t have to buy their products…

  • Whitemellon

I dislike twitter and Facebook only slightly less then I do ALEX but I notice all these emails I get want me to use them to pass the message on. I’m all for what United Republic is doing here but where is the email link?

    • http://twitter.com/nightowl22366 Mary Ann Bittle

Not to be rude, but you can easily copy the web address into an email of your own making… just saying.

  • Dtrussell

    Electronic Constitutional Convention

By now most have heard of
the proposed constitutional amendments to get private money and influence out
of Federal elections, as well as the one that would level or lower the benefits
Congress gives itself to those the rest of us must live with. The following
changes should be fused into a single amendment:  The Justices of the Supreme Court should be
    elected with public funds,
    along with Congress.  Three Justices
would have to run for election  every two
years, starting with the longer tenured  first.  Like Senators, they would then have six year
    terms.

It’s long past time to take
the spoils out of the political process.
What made sense more than two-hundred years ago,  as a result of compromises at the time,  no longer makes sense today.  Also along that vein, the notion that States
with low population such as Idaho or Wyoming, having the same clout in the Senate
as New York,  California, or Michigan is
illogical on its face.  That arrangement
has morphed into an unworkable gerrymander.
Let’s at long last get rid of the Electoral College, as well.

Let’s have an electronic Constitutional Convention!

  • Allinecropps

i don’t tweet are face book so put all information on internet thr e-mails for people like me

    • Allinecropps

i am a very small trucking company and we have at&t phones in all trucks along with lines for ofc and ofc employees ,this account will be closed

  • Golfgate

What the hell is Walmart doing still involved with ALEC when 90% of their customers are the very people who have no voice in the political decisions of this country and suffer from the greed and influance  that ALEC  is selling.

Come on Walmart support your customer base The people that make you so successful.

    • MariaEC

Sadly, their customer base are also the ones more likely to vote for the right wing extremists that ALEC helps prop up.

    • Pdalsanto

      Fully agree. Great comment.

    • Msimonsen

because their customers faithfully watch & believe everything FOX says and because they care more about saving five cents than supporting local businesses.

  • Gene in CA

Can you enable an email option?  I don’t use facebook or twitter because I don’t trust the (lack of ) privacy, especially facebook which is a tool for corporations, not the users of facebook.

  • Eeagglee

I’m a 30 year customer of State Farm, a 40 year customer of AT&T and have used UPS and FedEx. I have big changes that I am making in my life and have let my whole family know to change also.

  • penny fahlsing

IT BECOMES very hard to teach our school children how democracy works when they can watch it be bought and sold…stand up for America!

  • john t. zaccheo

The oil speculators are directly responsible for high gasoline prices and are left to do thier dastradly deed as in the state of Utah EVERY CENT OF INCREASE, benefits the stste revenue by10.8 million in taxes and corrects any short fall as is the case in all states. It is apparent that the Republican states donot feel compeld to question the economy as they will ride it out and show how well they managed the economy of their states with the hidden revenue of the gasoline pump prices. They are hoping to win and then force a drop in prices by request and show a moral victory and their ability to get co-operation with the commercial economy. Tricky , under the baton of ROVE, and as he is from UTAH I can say his education and the comments from a Professor of history was not coplimentary, to be polite. He is the modern day BRUTUS o oru times and he will use the  ”contaversy builds listeners” style of Rush LIMBO, and has no social conscience. I am grateful that I have discovered your web site and appreciate what you are doing.
The scandel of oil speculators has the same character of the early spice traders, they bid the oil in tankers ( thosands of them sitting at sea) and only take possession of the ship one day in 30, and only when they see oil going long. There are millions gallons of oil in storage on ships which does not get included in reserves and floating around the world waiting for the right time . There is a story here similar to the mortgage crisis and should be told, if there are good investigators out there with entree to these markets. AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR
JOURNALIST PERSUIT OF FAIRNESS. JOHN T. ZACCHEO

  • Sf1000000

This is simple…if you believe in the things that ALEC supports fine..give them and the corps that support them your business..if NOT and I don’t support ALEC then I will tell the corps that Ok you support Alec and I am going to use someone else..for example..I Don’t need UPS..YUM well I don’t want to dine at Taco Bell Or KFC etc..I will not use FEDEXP or Kinko’s…
and I will tell them sorry you support ALEC I will not do business with YOU bye…

These corps have been hiding all this time it’s time to bring them out of their closets..if they are so proud of ALEC them let them be more vocal…let them advertise that they support ALEC..

Boycotts work..back in the 1980′s Coors Beer would not be sold in gay bars..well Bud and the other beers took over..supported gay rights and etc…later coors wakes UP and goes OH please…to this very day..No one in a gay bar asks for Coors…

So F these people you can support whom ever you like but you will end up paying a price..let’s see how long they put ALEC over their bottom line !!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/P334ZX66J44QCOEN7KUYEPF57I Dad

All the pussy spineless companies that left ALEC should fail I personally will boycott coke, wendys, kraft. I agree with the stand your ground law. Zimmerman was attacked and he shot the chimp.

  • Msimonsen

I’ve always said Malwart (you know who this is) is bad for America.  Now we see that they’re bad in more ways than just destroying American production, contributing to slave labor, not providing jobs with a living wage, not promoting women, destroying small businesses in every small town they invade, etc. etc.

  • solver63

ALEC is a perfect tool now for the GOP and Tea initiative – The initiative to take Federal government and place decisions into each states hands, paying for andmanipulating state government is easier for the Plutocrats to manage. The new idea is, as per the midterm election, GOPBAGGER governors in lets say Wisc, SC, mich, ohio – You know, the states that LOVE ALEC and the money they pay for legislation, the idea is divide and conquer. get all the federal government out and control it from the states, destroy unions and departments and privatize everything. The Plutocrats want it to be “pay to play” and “profit for peoples lives” (servitude, essentially) – can’t happen here? already is and the voters better wake up and get rid of the do nothing paid off congress, fillerbustering GOP Senators and for Gods sake, DO NOT vote for the flacid Plutocrat king, Willard the waste of money Romney.

  • Independent Thinker

The ignorance of the commenters here is absolutely breathtaking. Ignorance of ALEC’s true nature and activities (they had nothing to do with Florida’s “Stand your ground” law), ignorance of our constitutional republic (most power is *supposed* to reside with the individual states), ignorance of the purpose of the Senate vs. the House (so big states don’t bully small one), ignorance of corporate tax rates (the highest in the *world*; and they just pass it on to the consumer anyway)… I could go on and on. It’s just utterly stunning!

    • kenneth r maxson

independent thinker?  You are truly no indepent thinker. Admit it you are a fox news junkie. Corporations have no business crafting laws and then presenting them to congress while dangeling the promise of campaign contributions in front of them(corporate bribery). All corporations should drop alec now. It is morally wrong to bribe public officials. Corporations such as walmart who claim to be christian should take a real close look at this and search their corporate hearts to see if this is a group they really want to support.

  • kenneth r maxson

It is time for the bribery of the United States congress to stop. Get undisclosed campaign contributions to candidates and pacs out of our country’s politics now! The people accepting these bribes belong behind bars not in theUnited States congress. We the people must act now!

  • No.

Bought gas @ Exon station today. That won’t happen again. Switching from UPS and FEDX to USPS, from Walmart to Target. etc.

  • http://twitter.com/FAKEALECPR Fake ALEC PR

Yes we have corporate sponsors, just like NASCAR! And the great news is, some new sponsorships just opened up! #ALECexposed #DumpALEC #alec

  • Engineer10388

I’m boycotting BP, ExxonMobile, UPS, and WalMart, after writing each of them via their web site Corporate Contact info.  But we also need to *reward* those companies who have left ALEC, by public and private praise (and perhaps our patronage).  Ditto for the companies who have stopped sponsoring radio talk shows that spew forth hate speech, often with racial undertones or aimed at ridiculing women, minorities, or anyone else who does not hold their extreme views.  Positive reinforcement will help keep them on the right track and it sends a signal to the others who have not yet acted.  Bottom line:  Keep pushing the holdouts, and be sure to thank those who who have now seen the light.

  • Kathjensen

I don’t make bird sounds or put my day to day life on line for everyone to read, so you lost me with this.  Your cause is great, but your means make assumptions that do not apply to me.  I doubt if I’m the only individual who values privacy but feels strongly about certain issues.

  • Jfischl

ABSOLUTELY TRUE, AMHA2006!!! Absolutely true!!! Never had a twitter account, never will. Facebook I got early on to check pictures posted by friends and relatives. I’m thinking of closing off the colossal privacy invasion known as my FaceBook account and I NEVER use it to link to any other game or cause.

  • Lisa

I still won’t buy from the companies that left ALEC–what were they doing being members of an organization like this anyway?

  • http://zena-wampusskitty.blogspot.com/ Noojoke Seriously

I’m having a problem with one of them up  there I see. Those greedy dishonest back-stabbing companies I will boycott as I have done to walmart for years…..

  • Ccmerritt

The word could be passed to many more interested people if you would expand your share option to include email.

  • Surrettejs

I boycott every business I know such as BP, Exxon, coke, walmart, chase bank,
etc. I am saving a lot of money.

  • Sarah Khan

This is power of the people at work!!
